About Mr David Bunting
Mr David Bunting is a consultant in upper gastrointestinal and abdominal wall surgery, practising at North Devon District Hospital, Barnstaple. He specialises in robotic hernia surgery, open hernia surgery, cholecystectomy (gallbladder removal), laparoscopic surgery, anti-reflux surgery, hiatal hernia repair, endoscopy, abdominal wall reconstruction, acid reflux and abdominal pain. Mr Bunting completed his undergraduate training at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital Medical School, London and undertook specialist training in the UK, Australia and South Africa, in addition to a fellowship in upper gastrointestinal surgery at Derriford Hospital in Plymouth. His post-graduate doctorate thesis investigated the use of biomarkers in predicting response to chemotherapy in patients with oesophageal and gastric cancer. Mr Bunting has been a Council member of the British Association of Day Surgery (BADS) since 2018, where he also served as the Editor of the Journal of One Day Surgery until December 2021. He was appointed as President of BADS in June 2023. In this capacity, he collaborates closely with various national entities, including NHS England, through initiatives like the Getting it Right First Time (GiRFT) programme, to promote excellence and optimise the delivery of day surgery services across the UK.
