About Dr Daniel Crespi

Dr Daniel Crespi is a consultant paediatric gastroenterologist in central London, who specialises in abdominal pain, food allergies and blood in stool (rectal bleeding), alongside coeliac disease, diarrhoea, weight loss, acid reflux and vomiting. He privately practises at Chase Lodge Hospital and his NHS base is Royal London Hospital, Barts Health NHS Trust. He also has a strong clinical interest in conditions such as irritable bowel syndrome, constipation, reflux, eosinophilic oesophagitis, inflammatory bowel disease, and gastrointestinal motility disorders. He also has expertise in endoscopy, including both conventional diagnostic procedures and the innovative use of transnasal endoscopy in adolescents. Dr Crespi completed his medical training at King’s College London in 2001 and went on to specialise in paediatrics, later subspecialising in paediatric gastroenterology, hepatology and nutrition. His training included posts at several major centres in London and the South East, including the Royal London Hospital, Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, King’s College Hospital and Southampton Children’s Hospital. Before joining the Royal London Hospital, Dr Crespi was a consultant at the Royal Free Hospital from 2011 to 2023. During this time, he worked closely with Great Ormond Street Hospital, where he also contributed to paediatric endoscopy services and training. He played a key role in the adoption of transnasal endoscopy, a technique that avoids general anaesthesia and provides high-quality diagnostic images and biopsies with minimal disruption to a child’s daily routine. Dr Crespi is committed to medical education and was previously an honorary clinical associate professor at University College London Medical School. He has also served as a personal tutor, supporting students both academically and pastorally. His teaching roles have focused on training junior doctors in endoscopy and paediatric gastroenterology, and he continues to value professional development and collaborative learning. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health and an active member of several professional organisations including the British Society of Paediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition, the British Society of Gastroenterology and the Association for Child and Adolescent Mental Health. He is also a member of the BSPGHAN gastrointestinal motility working group. His research has focused on improving outcomes for children with inflammatory bowel disease and advancing clinical practice in GI motility and endoscopy. With a practical and patient-centred approach, Dr Crespi remains dedicated to delivering high-quality, evidence-based care to children with complex gastrointestinal conditions.
