About Dr Clint Maart
Dr Clint Maart is a consultant cardiologist and interventional cardiologist in Norwich with expertise in chest pain assessment, coronary artery disease, percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) including complex PCI and chronic total occlusion (CTO) procedures, palpitations, syncope and pre-syncope assessment, and echocardiography. He practises privately at Spire Norwich Hospital and his NHS base is Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital, part of Norfolk and Norwich University Hospitals University NHS Trust. Since his consultant appointment in 2017, he has performed more than 250 angioplasty procedures each year, with extensive experience in treating both routine and complex coronary artery disease. Dr Maart has a specialist interest in advanced interventional cardiology techniques, including drug-coated stent implantation, treatment of heavily calcified coronary arteries using rotational atherectomy and intravascular lithotripsy, and revascularisation of completely blocked arteries. He routinely uses advanced diagnostic tools such as pressure wire assessment, optical coherence tomography (OCT) and intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) to optimise procedural precision and outcomes. Alongside his clinical work, he plays an active role in research, education and service development. He has served as principal investigator for international multicentre trials, including studies focused on acute myocardial infarction and coronary stent outcomes, and was clinical governance lead for the cardiology department at Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital from 2018 to 2023. He is currently regional education director for interventional cardiology in the East of England and regularly teaches colleagues advanced PCI techniques and the use of adjunctive interventional devices. Dr Maart completed his medical degree with first class honours at the University of Cape Town and Groote Schuur Medical School, followed by postgraduate training in the UK. He holds an MD from the University of Leeds and an MBA from the University of East Anglia, and is a member of the Royal College of Physicians. He's also a member of the British Cardiovascular Society and the British Cardiovascular Intervention Society.
