About Ms Brinda Shah

Ms Brinda Shah is a highly experienced consultant ophthalmologist based in Somerset, practising at Yeovil District Hospital. She specialises in glaucoma and cataract surgery, with expertise in minimally invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS), laser capsulotomy, iridotomy, and advanced intraocular lenses, including toric and extended depth of focus (EDOF) lenses. Ms Shah’s extensive training includes a glaucoma and A&E fellowship at Moorfields Eye Hospital, followed by a research and clinical fellowship at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospitals NHS Trust in London, when she continued as an honorary glaucoma fellow with Moorfields. Before moving to the UK in 2007, she trained extensively in India, earning a master of surgery in ophthalmology and advanced certification in phacoemulsification. She further refined her subspecialty skills through prestigious glaucoma fellowships at Mainz University, Germany, sponsored by the International Council of Ophthalmology (ICO) and L V Prasad Eye Institute, India.Before starting as a substantive Consultant at Yeovil, she also worked as a locum Cosnultanmt at King’s college Hospital, London. Beyond her clinical practice, Ms Shah is deeply committed to teaching, research, and service development. At Yeovil District Hospital, she played a key role in training local optometrists successfully enabling virtual glaucoma clinics, shared care glaucomas and other clinics clinics, and independent prescribing (IP) training sessions. As an early adopter of minimally invasive glaucoma surgery in the South West, she remains at the forefront of innovation and service development and has extensive experience with MIGS and MIBS procedures like Preserflo implant, istent and Hydrus implant.
