About Dr Bashir Alaour
Dr Bashir Alaour is a Consultant Cardiologist in Hampshire and London. He trained in Switzerland and the UK, and offers a state-of-the-art care to patients with complex heart conditions, and an advanced expertise in minimally invasive structural heart interventions, a highly specialised area of cardiology that involves minimally invasive procedures to address various heart diseases, including Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation (TAVI), Transcatheter Mitral and Tricuspid Valve Repair (Edge-to-Edge repair), Transcatheter Mitral and Tricuspids Replacement, Coronary Angiogram, alongside the investigations and management of breathlessness, chest pain and heart murmur. Dr Alaour trained at Bern University Hospital in Switzerland, one of the world’s leading and foremost centres for structural intervention, as the recipient of the prestigious British Cardiac Intervention Society International Fellowship. On returning to the UK, he established and now leads the Structural Heart Valve Intervention Service at Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, in collaboration with Royal Brompton & Harefield Hospitals in London and University Hospital Southampton. He privately practises at Sarum Road Hospital - part of Circle Health Group, Candover Clinic and Spire Southampton Hospital, and the Royal Brompton Hospital, while his NHS bases are Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Royal Brompton Hospital and University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust. Alongside his clinical work, Dr Alaour has an extensive academic background. He has a PhD in cardiology from King’s College London, where he completed a British Heart Foundation Clinical Research Training Fellowship. His doctoral work focused on developing a novel diagnostic method for detecting and quantifying specific proteins in the blood to enable earlier and more accurate diagnosis of heart attacks, an area he continues to research. His clinical research extends to various other critical areas, particularly focusing on the long-term outcomes of TAVI, contributing to evidence-based treatment and management of heart valve disease. He has had numerous articles in leading international cardiology journals published in peer-reviewed journals. His active engagement in clinical research ensures that the latest advancements are integrated into his practice, benefiting his patients. He is a member of the Royal College of Physicians, the British Cardiac Intervention Society, and the European Society of Cardiology. In addition to his clinical and academic achievements, Dr Alaour is committed to medical education, holding a postgraduate certificate in clinical education from the University of Exeter.
