About Dr Ashley Elliott

Dr Ashley Elliott is a consultant rheumatologist in Belfast and Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer at Queen's University Belfast whilst also providing care in Newry and Ballykelly. He specialises in inflammatory arthritis, particularly rheumatoid arthritis, gout and psoriatic arthritis as well as connective tissue disease like lupus, Sjogren's and osteoarthritis. He also cares for those with immune mediated muscle disease and vasculitis and associated conditions including polymyalgia rheumatica. He consults at Kingsbridge Private Hospital (Belfast and North West), Ulster Independent Clinic, and Newry Private Clinic, alongside his NHS practice at Belfast Health & Social Care Trust. Dr Elliott has expertise in the management of complex rheumatic conditions and also helping to establish other causes of pain including nocioplastic pain related to fibromyalgia. He runs a rapid access giant cell arteritis scanning clinic and a dedicated psoriatic arthritis service within the Belfast Trust. His work focuses on improving treatment pathways and advancing care for patients with inflammatory arthritis. He completed his medical training at Queen’s University Belfast and holds a PhD from the Wellcome-Wolfson Institute for Experimental Medicine. His postgraduate qualifications include an MSc in Internal Medicine from the University of Edinburgh and a Postgraduate Diploma in Medical Education from QUB. He is also accredited in musculoskeletal ultrasound. Dr Elliott is actively involved in research and has received prestigious awards, including the Doris Hillier Award, a GRAPPA Pilot Grant, and the Young Investigator Award from the Irish Society of Rheumatology. He serves on the steering committee for the British Psoriatic Arthritis Consortium (BritPACT), is a member of the Digital Learning Board of the British Society of Rheumatology, and contributes to the New Drugs Committee at Belfast Health & Social Care Trust. In addition to his clinical and research work, Dr Elliott co-hosts a clinical case podcast for the British Society of Rheumatology and participates in international research groups focused on improving outcomes for patients with rheumatic diseases. He is a member of the Royal College of Physicians, the British Society for Rheumatology and the Irish Society of Rheumatology.
