About Mr Andrew Tatham

Mr Andrew Tatham is a highly respected consultant ophthalmic surgeon based in Edinburgh, practising at Spire Edinburgh Murrayfield Hospital. He is also the owner and director of Eye Surgery Scotland. Mr Tatham specialises in cataract and glaucoma surgery, with particular expertise in premium cataract procedures, minimally invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS), and laser treatment for glaucoma. Known for his patient-focused care, Mr Tatham offers advanced intraocular lens options including multifocal and toric lenses, reducing the need for glasses following surgery. Mr Tatham trained at two of the world’s leading eye institutions: Moorfields Eye Hospital in London and the Shiley Eye Institute in San Diego, USA. He was awarded the highest score in Europe in the European Board of Ophthalmology examination and is among a select group of surgeons to hold both the ESCRS Fellowship in Cataract and Refractive Surgery and a Postgraduate Diploma in Cataract and Refractive Surgery with distinction. He has performed over 3,000 cataract operations and was the first surgeon in Scotland to introduce cutting-edge glaucoma procedures including the iStent, Hydrus, OMNI, and PreserFlo MicroShunt. In addition to his clinical practice, Mr Tatham plays a leading role in ophthalmic research and education. He is the President of the UK and Eire Glaucoma Society, National Clinical Lead for Ophthalmology for NHS Scotland, and a Visiting Professor at the University of Lausanne. He serves on the Executive Committee of the European Glaucoma Society, co-chairing its Scientific Committee, and has received multiple awards for his contributions to ophthalmology, including the ARVO Innovative Research Award and the Royal College of Ophthalmologists Foulds’ Trophy.
