About Mr Adam Critchley

Mr Adam Critchley is a consultant oncoplastic breast surgeon in Newcastle upon Tyne who specialises in breast reduction, breast lift (mastopexy) and breast augmentation, alongside augmentation-mastopexy, armpit fat removal, rapid diagnosis clinics (‘one stop’), breast cancer surgery and oncoplastic breast surgery. He privately practises at Nuffield Health Newcastle upon Tyne Hospital and Royal Victoria Infirmary – Newcastle Hospitals Private Healthcare, alongside his NHS role as a consultant oncoplastic breast surgeon at The Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. There, he is the head of the breast surgery department. Mr Critchley, who treats more than 175 breast cancers each year and has managed nearly 2,000 breast cancer patients over the course of his career, is a distinction graduate from Newcastle Medical School (2001). He then when on to completed his surgical training in the North East and undertook a prestigious national TIG oncoplastic fellowship in Sheffield. He is a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (FRCS Ed, General Surgery) and a member of the Association of Breast Surgery. His professional experience includes leading the specialist Newcastle Breast Centre at the Royal Victoria Infirmary from 2020 to 2023, where he contributed to its recognition as an exemplar service in the GIRFT ("Get it right first time") report. Alongside his clinical practice, Mr Critchley is actively involved in education and research. He serves as co-course director for the Association of Breast Surgery Level 1 Oncoplastic Course and as deputy course director for the National Oncoplastic Fellowship (TIG) workshop. He is a faculty member for regional and national surgical training programmes and an assigned educational supervisor for trainees at all levels. As principal investigator for three National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) portfolio studies, he contributes to national research on breast disease and has published more than 30 peer-reviewed articles. Mr Critchley has also been invited to provide expert insight for medical device companies and to advise on the development of surgical instruments and breast implant technology.
