About Dr Adam Ainley

Dr Adam Ainley is a renowned consultant respiratory physician and clinical lead for the tuberculosis (TB) service at Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust. He also serves as a clinical advisor to the national multidrug-resistant TB (MDRTB) advisory service and is joint lead for the pleural lung disease service at King George Hospital. Previously, he was the clinical lead for the collaborative BHRUT/NELFT Post-COVID service. He has extensive specialist experience in the management of respiratory infections, including tuberculosis and bronchiectasis, as well as airways disease such as asthma and COPD. His clinical interests also include cough, lung cancer, pleural disease, interstitial lung disease, breathlessness and sleep apnoea. Dr Ainley obtained his medical degree from University College London and completed his postgraduate training in Oxford and London. In 2016, he undertook a three-year NIHR Clinical Fellowship at the Health Protection Research Unit in Respiratory Infections at Imperial College London, in collaboration with the Virus Reference Department at the UK Health Security Agency. He subsequently completed a PhD at the National Heart and Lung Institute, focusing on the detection, understanding and management of severe respiratory infections. He is actively involved in both research and medical education. Dr Ainley has acted as principal investigator on multiple research studies and has authored peer-reviewed publications and textbooks across a wide range of specialist areas within respiratory medicine.
