Human papillomavirus (HPV)
Human papillomavirus (HPV) refers to a widespread group of viruses. For the majority of individuals, they do not lead to any health issues; however, certain types can result in genital warts or cancer. HPV can affect the skin as well as areas such as the mouth, throat, vagina, and anus. There are over 100 distinct types of HPV. Most people who are infected are unaware and experience no symptoms. Occasionally, the virus may lead to painless growths or lumps in the genital area, including around the vagina, penis, or anus, known as genital warts.
